چکیده

We present results of a 3 year monitoring campaign of the Seyfert 1 galaxy Markarian 509, using X-ray data from the Rossi X-ray Timing Explorer and optical data taken by the SMARTS consortium. Both light curves show significant variations, and are strongly correlated with the optical flux leading the X-ray flux by 15 days. The X-ray power spectrum shows a steep high-frequency slope of −2.0, breaking to a slope of −1.0 at at timescale of 34 days. The lag from optical to X-ray emission is most likely caused by variations in the accretion disk propagating inward. Subject headings: galaxies: active — galaxies: Seyfert — galaxies: individual (Mkn 509)

In the fluorescence detection of ultra high energy (& 10 eV) cosmic rays, the number of emitted fluorescence photons is assumed to be proportional to the energy deposited in air by shower particles. We have performed measurements of the fluorescence yield in atmospheric gases excited by electrons over energies ranging from keV to hundreds of MeV in several accelerators. We found that within the...

We present the first results of our VLT observation campaign of the Central Compact Objects (CCOs) in SNRs RX J085201.4-461753 (Vela Jr), 1E 1648-5051 (RCW 103) and RX J171328.4-394955 (G347.3-0.5). For Vela Jr., we found that the source is embedded in a compact optical nebulosity, possibly a bow-shock or a photo-ionization nebula, and we identified a candidate IR counterpart to the CCO. For RC...
